Introduction:

I have several binders with thousands of slides sitting in archival, acid-free holders. I can pull out a slide and make as clean a print today as I could 10 years ago. I trust that, 20 years from today, I will still be able to.

But what the hell do I do with all my digital files? Regular CDs and DVDs degrade over time and, in some cases, are unusable after a short five years. Even if you buy archival DVDs that purport to keep your files accessible 100 years from now, will you the technology to read them still exist in 10 or 15 years?

Along with all the benefits and conveniences of shooting digitally comes the inconvenience and worry about how to store those iamges long term. Even before we can talk about accessing the images five years from now, we need to look at how to save them so that we can actually find them in five years.

• Image management starts when you first take your camera out of the box!
• Why is the naming convention you use important?
• How to set up your image libraries for later retrieval
• What, where, when, and how to categorize and archive your images
• What kind of media should you use for long term backup? What kind should you not use?
• How much work will this involve?
• How much could this cost me?
• Forensics: how to retrieve deleted or corrupted image files
• Best practices from start to finish
• Worst practices from start to finish

Who Should Attend:

Anyone who takes pictures and would like to know they can access and view (or print them) later on. Also great for people who want to find their images without spending 30 minutes going through every folder ontheir computer.

Required Gear: None. Just bring something to write with.

1. If you sign up before November 13th, you qualify for the early bird registration price of $35 including Eventbrite fee. Starting November 14th, the price is $45.00 plus a $2.12 Eventbrite fee.
2. Cancellation up to 72 hours (9:00 am on Wednesday November 24th) before the event qualifies for a 100% refund. Cancellations up to 48 hours before (by 9:00 am on Thursday the 25th) qualify for a 50% refund. After 9:00 am on Thursday the 25th, paid fees are non-refundable.
